2.4 to build or not to build

    Hi everyone,

I have a 2.4 200 on my Vegas i just picked up. It runs good, compression is 124 to 128 across all 6 and i also have a 2.4 bridgeport powerhead with two blown cylinders, no electronics, etc. that has H59 9608 0 stamped where the flywheel bolts. My questions are:

1 Should I just rebuild the bridgeport and run it with the 2.4 200 electronics?

2 Combine the front half of the bridgeport on the 2.4 200 block and get new pistons modified like the cherry 2.4 build. Is this even possible?

3 sell both I already have buyers for both and go with a 2.5 200/225?

The boat is a 1991 Hydrostream Vegas which is going into Tempest Boats, who is a boat manufacturer here in Ontario and getting a new core, floor and 3" transom(i could see the floor flexing as it was driving.) I do not need to go 100mph but i do want to be in the 75mph plus range. The 2.4 200 i have only gotten 67mph out of so far.

    Thanks,

All the foam in my old Vegas XT was waterlogged. Get it out of there. Mine had a modified carbed 2.4 with N2O.

The Vegas should easily go 75+ mph with a stock 200 2.4L outboard; once the hull is fixed.

I would sell if you have buyers and pick up a decent 2.5. You will be happier in the long run. Especially if you find the 225 2.5.

Bridgeport is a thirsty girl atleast mine is and it doesn't like to idle through the long no wake zones. Save the bridgeport for a lighter toy and run the stock 2.4

id I’ve learned one thing over the years it’s this; don’t mess up a good running engine by tearing it down chasing a handful of ponies. If your 200 is running well then work the set up, you’ll find way more gains there than adding more power. If more power is what your after I still suggest leaving the good runner alone and building another on the engine stand while you run the good one. 200 hp is 200hp whether it comes from a 2.4 or a 2.5

if troubles arise then go for the 2.5 until then run it and work the set up

which BP? EFI or carb?.. a good "oval port" (standard 200) will run real close, some better, to tha BP block half with both havin' same front half fuel delivery stuff.. not worth tha difference in maintaining a BP block half configuration.. like said, gettin' set up squared away first will benefit more than anything.. but also like said, tha 2.5 would be tha choice when it comes ta spendin' cash on any of your choices............... jmo.

2.4 Is like paying Poker. Ace Queen is Good. Until you run into Ace King. Put your $ on a 2.5

    Hi everyone,

I ended up going with a 2010 mercury 250 ProXS and traded my 2.4 200 and BP powerhead plus 4500 for it. The extra torque i figure should help move the Vegas better. It is a 0 zero hour powerhead and ECU on the 225 mid and lower that the 225 blown powerhead was on.

Now i'm just left with deciding on the core, the boat manufacturer doing my core has given me 3 options and if price was not an issue which would you choose.

    Balsa
    composite
    no core

Is it worth upgrading to a 3" transom?

    Thanks,

Oh man this should be fun, another core debate on materials. Been down that rabbit hole on here doing homework going through old post and trying to educate myself on materials and what is the best to use. The one thing i learned is it comes down to how good of a job was done laying the glass and sealing it so that water cant get in.
