That's the truth. We will have different opinions based on results we had with different tires.

Hello. It may be a silly question, is it better to have larger or smaller wheels for the trailer to enter the water?

Honestly, I cant see it making a difference, you are going so slow, the water just moves out of the way.

Lots of ramps have drop offs, as in the concrete only goes so far also low water levels change how far you must back up, with bigger heaver boats it's more of a problem, having to trailer boats up to a 1,000 miles to make a race going over the speed limit I've always liked at least 14" wheels, the taller the slower the rotation less heat, air pressure and buddy bearings keep's the grease under pressure, Going to a race many years ago I was sleeping in the back of the van with my wife driving, I got up because I sensed something wrong, I told my wife to pull over, she was driving on the rim, NO rubber at all on the wheel

Interesting. I can tell you that the Carlislies that kept blowing on customer trailers (as well as my own) all failed at the exact same place due to a design defect. And we're not talking a simple "air down" failure, but rather a full tread flies off and takes out fenders, brake lines, tail lights, etc. Their Customer Service people were then downright rude to me, blaming it on low inflation pressure before they even listened to the back story. (They were never underinflated.) Yup, mike drop for them at our large marina.

Shorter tires will get the boat floating sooner. And taller tires make it easier to retrieve if the ramp is soft dirt.

    And the bearings survived?................

Whatever you do, make sure to have them balanced or put the ceramic beads in them.

They run cooler and last longer if they're balanced... trailer tire problems virtually disappeared when we all started having them balanced (about 30 years ago).

I have had better luck with GOOD quality proper load rated passenger or light truck tires. Boats, horses, car trailers all have done well. Always balanced & inflated properly. In general trailer specific tires SUCK, IMHO. I started backing trailers down the ramp for my dad in 'bout 1958. Just what I've seen & learned over a few years......

I agree when I was putting on lots of miles I used a 15'' LT tire.

I guess it depends on what you are towing, my stoker was on a tandem trailer so any tire would have worked truck or trailer tire. But my last boat A Donzi was 11,000lbs and current checkmate is 5000lbs, those should have trailer tires with a stronger sidewall-right? I went with radial trailer tires, a senior moment is stopping me from remembering the brand.

I've had excellent results with four balanced 50psi 2600 pound radial car tires on 5000 pound total loads.
Over 5000 pounds I use the most expensive Contender radial trailer tires with as much rating as I can get, excellent results.
All the above have run very cool.
All bias have run hot for me. Very hot.
Before the Contenders all the trailer tires failed or disappointed in some way. All the usual suspects over fifty years.
    Your mileage may vary.
