Trailer tires
Might be a stupid question, have to replace 4 215/75D14 trailer tires. I have not bought trailer tires in a long time. I see online people are saying to replace the D with R a radial tire. Any input would be good. When I started on this site years ago I asked why my Stoker has 3 transom plugs....That was stupid, this is more of a learning question.

I have had good luck with the carlisle D load rated 205-75-14'' tires. About $80 each and rated to 80+ mph. These are the radials...I haven't bought bias ply tires in a long time.

I blew 2 tires last year that looked good on my trailer due to one of the equalizers being flipped and putting the axle out of alignment.
I did replace all four with radials and had them balanced. What I can tell you is my 3200 lb boat rides smooth at 90 with no shimmy or shakes. Peace of mind. I’ve towed from WI to FL and back without any worries whatsoever.
Now I just try to keep everything out of the sun. Seems like the UV does more to damage tires than about anything these days.
Good luck with your tire replacement.A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...

I’ve had a bunch of brands but the best one out right now is the Goodyear Endurance in my opinion which are 6 ply and made in USA. There more expensive but to me are worth the extra cost.

Thanks for the input, I got caught on the edge of a ramp today and got a flat. I keep a compressor in the truck so i got home but they are shot. I didn't want to put new ones now and have it sit all winter was hoping to make it till spring and make it a winter project but that ain't happening now.

The biggest difference is flat spots. A bias ply tire is notorious for getting flat spots in it......from sitting. Flat spots are lessened by making sure that you keep the tire at its proper inflation at all times. Radials are much less prone to flat spots, but they still get them sometimes. And radials are typically smoother at highways speeds. In the end the choice is yours though. Load rating is load rating. But a radial should last you longer and run smoother. But the best thing that you can do is keep the air in them...........its one of the worst things to let happen.

While you are changing your tires, you might want to think about changing your valve stems too. Most passenger tires stems are rated for 60-65 lbs of air pressure. Not sure how much air you run in your trailer tires. Not that much more to install 100 psi rated snap in valve stems. They can dry rot and fail just like a tire.....Dont ask me how I know. lol

After 6 years throw away sun or no sun even if they look new, accident waiting to happen. Every tire has a DOT birth date

I can say to stay FAR away from the "power kings" they all separated and blew in the 1st year.

I work at a marina and see my fair share of trailer tires - and failed trailer tires. Based on that and personal experience, I wouldn't put Carlisle tires on my bicycle. And I've told their Customer Service people exactly that.

I replaced my Goodyear marathons (Chinese made) with Goodyear Endurance (USA) made. Actually found the best price at the Goodyear store. I had blown 2 of the 4 marathons, but they were also getting old. Garage kept and looked new but.... getting old. I had the new endurance tires balanced as well. Pulls great and I can pull with the truck in overdrive which I hadn’t been able to before. Can’t explain that one other than I run more air pressure in the endurance tires.
