Every successful Viking I ever saw that was center steer had weight offset to the starboard side. Batteries, fuel tank or trim pump. I had a Viking race boat and after they deleted the side steering rule I couldn`t wait to change mine to the middle. It made me feel like a real race boat driver lol. Anyway I quickly learned that I needed to move some weight to the starboard to make it drive right again.
I love the pictures of this white Viking.

He posted pics of the a bp motor he cut up and made it a behind the liner 2.5. Not sure if that was the motor he ran at the race. I saw the powerhead but I couldn't tell. He ran really well on Monday. Both losing passes were very close. There are pics of the boat build on fb.

Nothing like seeing an old 'stream running on on a string. Brings back memories of the old days, seeing 4 of of em running across the lake.
I bet theae pics would make Howard smile.

I have fond memories of "Keith", who had a blue "bruiser" Viking with a 175 Merc - he used to terrorize ( in a good way ) Lake Alexander in MN, around 1980. Of course, I was in about 4th grade at the time, standing on the dock and tugging on my Dad's leg telling him we needed one as he went screaming by ….. LOL -

Boys thats plain bad ass!
Shows that with effort, creativity, help, (willingness to fail) even an antique can run!
Absolutely love it.
First picture is a money shot for sure.
That may end up on my shop wall.
I noticed some shenanigans w/the pad
I loved my Vector (which flew like that) but always felt the V-king pad was faster.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

He shared the build pictures on FB so I don't feel bad posting them here. There's lots of videos on FB of it making practice runs. His shop is about 15min from my house. Very impressive boats in there. Bill is a really nice guy and was willing to spend some time on the phone with me concerning the bottom of my boat. I believe that was the last Hydrostream Howard ever signed. This particular hull was ready for the dump when they started.

Back before the manatees attacked/fatally wounded the Palatka drag races, there was a Vector that made it into the final rounds. The owner/driver was a machinist [might have been at the Georgia-Pacific plant] who installed a pneumatic driven trim tab that was normally down and retracted with a button push on the steering wheel. The Merc on the back had Yamaha Carbs mated to it. It was a screaming machine.
I saw it over a year later after he had crashed it after drinking "several" beers and forgot about the wind coming down the perpendicular Florida Barge on a 110+ run down the main channel of the St Johns. He was fortunate that another boater rescued him as it was sinking with his face wedged inside the the sharp bow [all flotation had been removed for racing]. The BUI cost him a fortune and his face was ruined from the impact into the dashboard/inside of bow. .Last edited by JR IN JAX; 10-14-2020 at 08:03 PM.
