High performance lower units are engineered and designed to reduce drag in the water which allows the boat to go faster. That's my understanding, I am sure some others can provide further insight.

As far as most are concerned here...CLE lower units are not exactly "high performance"

Also, what was done in the rebuild? New gears, new seals, new wp base/pump/housing or what?

Recently serviced would be more appropriate. Rebuilt would indicate bearings etc.

I've bought and sold 23 boats in 27 years. I fix them up and then get bored and look for another. It's a hobby but I've learned a LOT about boats along the way. And I still don't know chit.
