I just saw this and I can’t believe it. Slash is who made me play the guitar, learning by pausing live shows on VHS tapes and imitating what I saw, but EVH shaped rock music in its best era unlike most others. I guess if there ever was a guitar god, he would be it. RIP EVH

Probably one of the most talented musicians of all time.........not just a guitar player....

I watched an interview with him from just a few years ago..........I gained a respect for his abilities in music........it just came natural to him.

This signature instrumental voice of Eddie, almost did not get on the groups first album.
A non Van Halen band member, heard this and told Eddie it should go on the album.

Quincy Jones asked Eddie Van Halen to play on Beat It.

But the Van Halen members at the time, had a verbal agreement among themselves, not to do any solo music outside the group. One way Eddie justified playing lead guitar on Beat It, was not to receive any payment for the studio gig and record.

And thus when the two opposing forces in the video meet, Eddie's guitar rift lifts the song from its repetitious beat to an escalating dynamic.
