    1977 Challenger 21 I/O unrestored

    BOAT IS SOLD!!

My Challenger 21 is going to a great home:

..... to a "modest" Canadian performance boat racer and collector (and great guy) who will store it indoors along with his other "Challenger 21" siblings.

I couldn't be happier to find a new owner who respects the heritage, will take care of it and use it.

My 1977 Challenger 21 I/O at the dock of its new home:

Thanks to all of the Scream and Fly members who followed along and shared their nice comments.

    Rgds, Tim.

This is an all original, un-restored 1977 Challenger 21 I/O that was built by George Linder, West Babylon NY. Hull Serial #006.

Boat has been cared for and stored inside its entire life.

414 cubic inch all aluminum small block, 450 hp @ 4500 rpm, Dart block, Callies crank, brodix heads, carillo rods, jesel valve train - best of everything.

TRS outdrive with Huber Marine velvet drive.

Original trailer as well. This boat looks like it came out of a time capsule from 1977. I still have the original Bill of Sale, Manufacturer's Certificate and Import Documentation.

Wow! Very nice. Look at that Teak engine hatch. Has the TRS always spun left?

Yes, TRS has always spun opposite. Because the engine rotates same direction as an automotive (car) race engine, which is opposite of a typical marine engine. and if you notice the driver seat is also on opposite side, to offset the torsional twist (torque) of the engine to balance boat under load.

I was a dedicated full - time crew member in the early 90's on one of the Billes' family motorsports race teams, when David Billes started liquidating all his toys, to simplify his life, he wanted them to go to people he liked, and that would appreciate them.

I was first in line, always loved and admired his boat.

What isn't in the pics is that he originally put a twin-turbo chevy small block in the boat in 1978. The turbo management systems weren't as good back then.... so took the boat awhile to get up on plane.... but once it did it was insanely fast.... like 120 mph in 1978. He built and installed the naturally aspirated small block in 1993, it is fast (80mph+?) but very manageable. Only had it in the water 4x times since i bought it in 2012. Hate to see it sit around. want it to go to a good home to someone that will appreciate the heritage and use it.

Lefty TRS/Huber...Now thats some good thinking! I was Kinda wondering if that was the case. Someone had an experienced noggin on that setup.

(Note to younger members. A noggin is street slang for your head and brain)

Saw the 120 MPH! Funny how a some us were going that fast back then. Them dam Turbos

My lake house is down the shore from mr billes. I Remember seeing the back of that green boat when it hung inside the boathouse for a few years. NEVER saw it on the lake.

Then you sir KNOW this boat...... Mr Billes was a workaholic obsessed with the next engineering challenge. And the boat is MINT because of this. I unfortunately am carrying on the tradition of NEVER using the green machine and like I stated earlier in this post just would like to find a home for it by someone who will appreciate the heritage and attention to detail and will use it. thanks for the comment.
