Something Positive - Father / Son Motion 25

Hey guys, I find this website very helpful and wanted to make a quick post about something that I think is cool and have been working on. Like many, I got introduced to performance boats at a young age. My dad worked his way up to a STV and then bought a bare hull 25 motion, this particular boat, in the mid 90s. I was a young kid but remember him hanging the motors, rigging it, and several fun rides in his "fast boat".

He had the boat for a few years before he sold it to a local guy and moved on. Being small town USA I crossed paths with the individual who bought it a couple times a year and we would always talk about the boat. He is now in his 70s and two years ago I made the comment that I wouldn't mind getting it back. Well in August 2019 he reached out to me and we made a deal. Now on the bright side it didn't get all that much use for the 20 years the previous owner had it but it also didn't get any maintenance and didn't get taken care of the way I think boats should be. To be honest, it needed a lot of love.

So first things first my dad had rigged it with 260s, now I love 2.5s as much as the next guy but realistically they haven't been made for a long time and quality parts are hard to come by. My wife was only on board if it would end up being a somewhat family friendly boat. So I got the 2.5's running and knowing they had never been rebuilt I decided to sell them and keep my options open.

I have a 3 year old daughter and found out my wife was pregnant 2 weeks after I bought this boat so putting family first I didn't have a lot of time to work on it but I immediately pulled the interior and started wet sanding. I ending up going through the interior and really spending the winter trying to bring the gel back. Thanks to scream and fly I found a pair of promax 300 project motors (brand new sport masters) that I pulled the trigger on earlier this year. The motors are not perfect but I always liked the 3.0 offshore mid and alien cowlings. I figured these gave me the option to get on the water now and potentially upgrade to 250 or 300 XS powerheads down the road.

So most of this year was spent polishing, hanging the motors and cleaning up the rigging. I added a new GPS speedometer and some graphics and finally got the boat in the water about a week ago. I still have some small things to work through and improve on but it was a pretty cool feeling to go for a ride. My dad joined me for a quick ride and it was really cool to think over 20 years later and we're back in his "fast boat". I ended up having a son in March so I can't even begin to explain how excited I am in the future to get him involved.

    Thanks Gang!

Got a 3 year old and a 5 month old myself. Just sold the boat and we're hoping to get something different in the next year or two so we can make memories on the water. This story really gets right in the feels.
Great boat and even better story. Thanks for that.

Very cool story! I love hearing stories like that! Make sure to get your little ones boating at a young age! The smile on your face tells all we need to know.

I sold our last boat over ten years ago. I met my wife right after, so she never got to enjoy all the years I had on the water, but I always wanted to get another boat and get back. Fast forward and we now have a 3yr daughter like yourself, and after a ton of searching I ended up with a 21 Daytona with twin 2.5. My daughter absolutely loves it, and so does my wife. In my opinion, nothing can replace the joy of being on the water growing up.

To the OP, great story!!! Wow! Can believe you got her back.

You are 100% correct that I have a lot to be thankful for. As far as Trump I don't like the childish comments and the twitter account needs deleted but I can certainty see past that to realize his policies and cabinet are actually doing things to help out working Americans.

Lake , Awesome story and I love the boat. Just show's to go ya , that's you don't have to have a $200,000.00 boat. $9000.00 trailer and $75,000.00 - $140,000.00 in 1999 Toyota replica's on a stick to have fun.

The best times of my life were when my son tasted gasoline. Have fun every single minute you can, because once they taste lipstick .. dad time seems to take a back seat.
    Cats in the cradle ...
