Mercury Outboard Grease Fittings

Hate to ask such a numb question but can you grease Mercury grease fittings with a normal pump grease gun? Just doing a 100 hour grease job and the head wont stay on the fitting and when I adjust the threads on the gun fitting lose enough to go over the fitting it leaks when I pump it. Same issue on all motor fittings, tilt pin, swivel and pully. I use the same grease gun om my John Deere tractor and it works fine.

That's weird. My old merc greases the same as my truck. Not sure on new stuff
