Gearcase Question for Drag Racers
Skeg fractured on 15" Sportmaster Gearcase during testing last weekend. See attached photograph. Running on a Mirage Quartermaster with 300 Drag (turning a 24" Yamaha).
The fracture was NOT a consequence of hitting anything under the surface. Rather, the prior owner did some "notch work" on the trailing edge which may have created a weak point that finally cracked after about 8 race seasons.
My questions:
- Has too much of the skeg been broken off for any potential reshaping and reuse?
- If so, are there any reputable service providers that have had success with repairing Sportmaster skegs that have had similar damage?
Thanks for any responses.

Find a good CLE housing. Much better casting.. That will never hold up after welding.
