I don't get how you guys can get into a "HydroStream" and think it's bad ass. It's got to be one of the most horrid looking things I've ever seen. That's why there add sais something to the effect of "Take a ride in one then you'll understand." Even there own advertisers imply we know it's horrible looking, but if performs. Just my .02

Hey did'nt I just read in HOT BOAT MAG how they bought a BIG BLOCK JET BOAT ,and Sank it half way (Bow Down) so the pump could SQUIRT the shoreline to put out fires. WHAT A GREAT IDEA! Finally found a real use for those SLEDS! I would take a ugly Hydrostream anyday!

    Cool

Not one of you guys here has mentioned that you probably all get eaten by jets out of the hole. Yeah, my jet ain't very fast, my hydro is, 7.67@149 last weekend. Those are REAL mph numbers. My jet only runs mid sixties, but every outboard I've had or seen (and I mean lake boats US1, LOL!!!!) can't haul a sick hore off a piss pot!!! Rather go 60 with low end balls, and then go real numbers like 140's. Non off that in between crap! 80 mph in the length of the lake? Definatly NOT for this cat. BTW, I threw a chicken in the water once, they look just like hydrostreams when the swim!!!!!

    Red face Ok Dimarco kid

I don't get eaten out of the gate by jet boats, most of the guys that want to run me put their boat in the water, make a few passes, and there done. 5 gallons of fuel, 500 plus cubic inches, and a 300 pound lay-up with one center seat, now that's better suited for the calm of the drag course. I'm sure your hydro is very fast, however, it does not sound like much of a lake boat. It seems to me that there are hydro's out there with outboards running 8's in the 140 mph range, and that is with less than 200 cubic inches or maybe a little more. Somehow I get the feeling your running lots of cubic inches, how quick would you be with 200 cubic inches. My point young man, is everyone knows TFH is king and TFJ's run in the 170 mph range, NONE of them run around 200 cubic inches, inch for inch the outboard is King.........Uncle Tony

    Talking UT

UT, you summed it all up! Most of us average OB owners have there abouts 300hp or less! How fast would the same jet boat run with the same power?? How much power does it take to get the average 17-19 foot jet going 80mph. Last week a Baja jet wanted to run... we did it twice. First time when he pulled up beside me from about 30 mph and motioned "lets race"... well bye-bye because the time I hit 85 he was sooooo far behind I left off. Second time was from a dead stop... same results. He had 468cid 2 4-bbls, headers, etc! I admit I do like jet boats because they look cool, sound cool, and could be a lot of fun. But for going fast I just don't think the jet pump is very efficient! Just tkaes too much power to do anything.

    Thumbs up

Your right, cubic to power ratio is better, BUT what REALLY counts is the big bad dollar bill. Mike Kuhl built my 490 Blower motor in my hydro for under 15k. How much do your outboards cost, the ones that would run 140? And yeah, my hydro does guzzle gas, but I still use it as a lake boat, 2 seats and everything. I've got $28,429.98 (to the penny) in my hydro, can you guys compete with that dollar to speed ratio?!!!!!!
