2011 Mercury 200hp pro xs differences

    Hi scream and fly,

have been searching the internet and can’t seam to find a straight answer. Looking at purchasing a 2011 200hp pro xs. Ideally wanted a 225-250 but in Australia they are hard to find.

i know with the 225-250 pro xs you get solid mounts, carbon reeds, ecu with higher rev limiter and more aggressive tune. But what about the 200? Do you still get all of the above features? Just don’t want to buy it and wish I had gone the bigger motor.

    Cheers

The 200 has all the same stuff as 225-250
A regular optimax is cheaper will give good performance also upgrade reeds to fiberglass

Thanks 2jz, just thinking maybe that little extra hp and rpm range will make it perform close to a normal 225 Optimax

The 200 ProXS and 200 Optimax are the same motor. The 200 ProXS has no upgrades like the 225 and 250. Decals are the only difference. This comes from Merc University and in the tech handbook it says “The 200 meets the criteria for the ProXS rating “.

    Direct from Mercury's product release:

You asked for it so here it is - the 200hp Optimax with Pro XS graphics to make it more attractive to bass customers. The Optimax 200 Pro XS targets the 18' - 20', 200 hp max rated hulls - providing superior performance over a standard 200 hp outboard. Available only as 20-inch model.

    Carbon fiber reeds
    Improve performance and efficiency
Are more durable and responsive than stainless steel
    RPM range of 5000 - 5750
    Unique Attenuator
The intake silencer allows more air in while at the same time reduces overall noise
    Exhaust port tuning
Cylinder port is designed to let exhaust out - allowing the engine to build more torque and horsepower
    ECM Tuning
Fuel flow and spark advance are set for maximum power output and efficiency
    Engine Type V-6 60°
Displacement 185.9 cu. in (3032 cc)
    WOT RPM Range 5000 - 5750
    Fuel System 2-stage DFI
    Alternator 60 amp
    Gear Ratio 1.75:1
Shaft Length 20 in (508 mm)
Dry Weight 505 lbs (229 kg)

Does have carbon fiber reeds, a quieter air attenuator, and a "maximized" calibration. Very little, if any difference from the standard 200 Model. Averages about 220hp at the propshaft.
This model was intended as a "market competitor" in the 200HP High Perf category.

Eventually got to the bottom of it, early 200 pro xs is the same as the 200, no performance modifications until late 2012.
