    140 crossflow

Are there solid mounts available for these motors? I searched and didn’t find anything out there. Do they not need them? Can’t say my old 115 had much wobble to it.

engine I’m working with is a 79 and I know about squaring off the top of the ports but are there any other mods or tricks I ought to do to this thing?

I used the same one in my V4 as in my V6 crossflow. I think there are 2 people selling them here.
    1973 Viper - sold
    1978 Viking - sold
    1995 XB02

John Tiger wrote an excellent article on the V4 Crossflows that ran in the January 1998 issue of Bass and Walleye Boats magazine. It was certainly my inspiration for the V4 115 to 140+ hop-up project that I'm in the middle of now. John's advice on the mounts was to use those from the GT150 crossflow top and bottoms. I found them on eBay for cheap complete with the larger bolts and will use those. He gives part numbers for almost all of the go-fast parts you'll need. The lower leg will need to be drilled out to accept the larger bolts of the two lower mounts, but it's a simple task as the bolt centers are identical. The conversion from 115 to more is not a simple "bolt-on" as I learned. You'll need specific parts from a 140 and you'll need to do some machining to make way for the exhaust flow and drill/tap the exhaust chest in the block to bolt-up the 140's stuffer blocks.

John's article has great reference to charts showing the changes, differences, and references. What it does not get into are the specs for piston scallops or the intake ports modifications needed to take advantage of the scallops. Have fun....Gordon

That’s a great tip re the gt150 mounts I will definitely look into that. I do have the 9 pages article saved from when I had my last cross flow. I’ve been a little back and forth with this project trying to keep it simple because the whole idea of the vandal was to buy a turn key boat to enjoy while I’m building my Viking. What I didn’t expect was how much I would enjoy driving the vandal. It’s quite different than other streams I have been in and very different to drive vs the v-king and almost all of the differences being good!

This fired up the mod bug instantly and I bought the crossflow the week after the first run with it.

    as of now I think I have settled on a simple and effective build program. It’s going to go like this;

    140 crossflow stock, no lwp
new reeds and tune up. Maybe a small port clean
    new hydraulic steering
hot foot and hand controls ( will run spare cable to swap around )
    blinker trim

im pretty confident that this will still run 70+ with the right prop. I enjoy prop testing I really got into that with my Previous boats so I will tinker around with this and see how it goes. i want this to be a useable ski boat for my kids and I’m thinking a 15p or so prop will keep the top speed safe and have a ton of grunt to pull any skier then when I want to air it out a bit a prop swap the little vandal will hang with the big boys. Even as it is with the 85 most people’s faces are in shock when I blow past them in such a little boat lol. Fun factor is high

Run two lag bolts vertically through each mount and cut them off flush. You can do something similar with the upper mount also.

Gotta be worth a try. Solid mounts for these things cost more than two spare complete 90hp motors

If you have a lathe, or access to one. You can buy a short piece of Delrin plastic and whittle up a set of your own. I like it better than aluminum mounts. Aluminum will get water in between the mount , it's register and hold down cap .. and start to corrode. Somethings got to give and it wont be the solid mount ..

Good tip thanks. I have a few lengths of Delrin In a couple diameters but no lathe. This is a winter project so I’ll see what I can do.
