    Efi 2.5/3.0

Since I'm relatively new to this forum I hope I'm posting this in the right place. It's engine specific.

The 225 EFI has been on my radar for my next boat, I'm trying to learn more about it so I can be certain. What I know so far is this motor is very dependable and a workhorse with more power than rated. However It's a little difficult trying to find information on what year motors to look for and their differences. Optimax's are great but a little out of my price range.

My big question is what are the key differences (other than displacement) between the 2.5 & 3.0.

    I'm currently looking at 2 boats with EFI 225's. One is 1998 2.5 225 EFI and the other is a 2005 3.0 225 EFI.

The boat I'm in search of is a 20-22 bow rider performance boat for the fam. A 2.5 seems like it would struggle with a heavier boat like this.

Biggest differences are the ignition system being computerized and the oiling system being far superior. They are very robust engines. Only drawback is the thirst for fuel.

Only at higher rpm's. At optimum cruise with a good prop my boat gets about 3 mpg.
2.5 200 on the same boat will get around 4 mpg.
