Metal oil pump drive gear for Merc 3 liter?

Did Mercury ever make metal drive gears to replace the plastic ones that failed? I'm looking for one for a Mercury 250 Offshore EFI

Damn, seriously? It would otherwise be a perfect motor if not for that.

At this point I'm contemplating getting Merc to send me CAD drawings of the gear and having it machined

Merc ain't going to send you sh*t. Just buy a new gear and go off of that. And they are far from a perfect motor. A lot of untapped potential but also a ton of work to get to that potential. But like Chaz says they can be had reasonably..especially motors from cancer water.

Yea , I need to start taking pictures of the four-stroke heads that I weld up . You know , the ones that spring a leak between the water jackets across the deck and into the chamber / intake port / exhaust log / cam chain tunnel .. then need full machining to make them usable again … and sometimes NOT ..

The rot should be a good visual to go along with the sales pitch ..

Not that I know anything.... but if the plastic failed,,,,,, maybe the steel wasn't turning smmmooth and easy ….I have seen many Merc failuers……..Chazz…….Have you seen the pos that merc drives the oil pump on the 90/115 4 strokes...?Plastic garbage.....and 2 steel 1/8 +or - pins.....that break...…. hope Merc didn't take any short cuts on the new ones...……..Merc should make the new motors out of old recycled plastic soda /beer cans.....they might be better in the salt water......and lighter......OOPs I just gave away my non patterned idea..... WOOPS...….

The upwardly mobile yupsters become offended when their decal package is out of date by a year .. they won't keep one long enough to ever notice the plastic drive failure's.
I didn't like the idea of the later 3.0L using an electric oil pump .. now 18 years later , it's proven to be the only way to fly ..
