2.0 Mercury lower crank seal
I pulled the power head off the adapter plate in preparation for moving everything to a new clamp and swapping in solid mounts. I don't believe the power head has ever been off.
I found this round spring like piece sitting in the plate under the crank. Is this part of a lower crank seal, or just something left from factory assembly?'78 Hydrostream Viking/'98 225 ProMax

No string used that I know of. Pull the housing and put 2 new seals in it. If original they are trash by now. It's easy and cheap to do. (if the bolts don't shear)

Everything has came apart pretty easy so far thankfully. No broken bolts and nothing stuck.

Put the seals in with red loctite. One facing in and one out. Blue loctite or some aviation sealer on the bolts.

Ok, so they're under that black cover. I just found them on an exploded view. I'll pull that off tomorrow. Thanks!

Capt is correct. Both seals out. Been a while since I have done one. CRS has set in!
