Only long shaft J blocks I have seen the serial n7mber on the block didn’t match the one on the mid section. Parts is parts.

...imagine all these years, no one ever even bothered to look, or pay attention to this, because everyone simply payed attention to their short little shafts...and nothing else, lol... could be a goldmine of undiscovered J motors out there, right in plain site...still.

I am helping a friend sell some old Merc parts. There are some I-6 motors. One has the louvered wrap, but cowl says 1500.
How can I tell if any are J blocks. A pic would be great.
thanks, Nelsondeath is certain; life is not

...right at the same location as the serial number, stamped on the starboard lower side of the block. J motors had simular cylinder porting to the 1500XS, which is why it is sought after by the old inline six crowd. hard to see in this photo, but there is a J stamped at the beginning of the serial number...

1500XS , Transfer- 111°
Exhaust- 94°
Piston- 112°
There was a 20" by us in the 70s . It was said to be J. But if memory serves it was a 115 that was swapped. Maybe some old pics around .
