The sneeze that won't go away
I am at a loss. I have a 1988 90hp 3 carb triple . New water pump thermostat and popet. Cleaned the carbs twice now first by hand second by ultrasonic cleaner. I have 120psi on all 3 holes . It will start and run pretty smooth and what not and after 2 to 3 min it will sneeze through the exhaust. So I pulled reed plates and they were all good replaced all intake gaskets and still same thing. The water flow seems like it almost pulses out the tel tale. Do I have a bad head gasket?

try adjusting the idle air control , mine likes 1 1/2 turns out. I would lean towards a lean condition causing this. but I had a skip a couple of years ago and it ended up being a coil. check plugs to check head gasket but compression test should rule that out.

Ok so I played with it some more today and was able to get it up to temp on the muffs . got it about adjusted but now it idles nice but if I crack the throttle then let off it will cough . as I was watching for fuel to come out the front of the carbs I noticed exhaust would puff out of the fuel pump pulse line when it coughs so I stopped there

I would replace the line, sounds like it has a leak. then try it again. I picked up the bent line in o reilly's part store in the self help section. Had them cut me a piece of straight line, I replaced all of them at same time. take your line with u and match it up. I also got new fuel filter at advance

So pulled plugs and set timing to 4deg while cranking . Re zeroed butterflys and set needles to 1.5 turns and fired right up runs good .
