Pan Ronnie...... Thanks for the input. The attached thumbnail was a great help. It looks like the IGNIA coils will be more the adequate. It's a lake ski motor and is all over before 7K. Your suggestion about logging existing program is good. I was running a Simple Digital System controlling the fuel side only. Patch fire.... no drivability, on or off only. Not much to down load. I now have a new link extreme ecu in the box and hoping. It's a 3.0 looper warm not hot running on pump gas. Any suggestions or direction help would be greatly appreciated.

My experience is when you ask the maker of those coils and ignition systems if they will run over 7 they all say probably not and will overheat.
Can you get a Merc 280 system to run over 9k?

if you want to educate yourself about coil dwell this is a nice site
    http://dtec.net.au/Ignition%20Coil%2...alibration.htm
it also shows that the biggest isn,t always best
with the Medium Energie Coils MEC you can achieve much shorter coil dwell times

3 miliseconds is enough to burn off 2 stroke oil of the sparkplug
if you are very rich on oil then it would be time to start looking at CD ignition
but you can still experiment with longer dwell settings
    Hi Pan

Next question is can your ecu run at enough hz to run the ignition at high speed?

Most of the standalone ECU's on the market these days can fire the coils, it's only the dumb coil (inductive) that would require an ignitier. If you do plan on eventually modding the engine more to turn higher rpm's it's best to go CDI that way you will have the system already but if $$$$ is an issue then run the IGN1A coils until & if you decide to go that route.

Most of the outboard guy's I know that run EFI on the slO-MC run CDI ignition for racing, lake use they can use IGN1A coils once your not running high rpm. I remember back when Wayne Taylor was starting to use the Wolf Ecu & using those coils they were failing a lot because they were being ran at high rpm. I know on a 4-stroke they can & will turn over 9000 rpm probably due to them firing once during a 720* cycle on the 4-stroke but on the 2-stroke it has to fire twice in the same amount of degrees so it does have a little more time to cool down on the 4-stroke vs the 2-stroke.

Cool, says alot for the honeywell gt101 too... Chart shows why its nice to go 14 or 16V...To play with dwell times and duty cycles go to gtsparkplugs.com they have a nice calculator to play with to see what the duty cycle will beat any given dwell and rpm. CdI takes all the guess work out...

The emtron is amazing but im still learning, I think they expect you to be on a team level already of which im not so theres alot of wtf and then oh thats easy. It has so many features that i will never get into but you never know lol..

The IGN1A coils have the igniter built in so no need to run an external one
