Gary--you're coming back?
Per Rock:
"Once I bought my first Hydrostream boating changed forever for me."
Per my hero Instigator:

Who knows Pat?
Cheryl is not as fond of Fla as I am.
She did it for me.
I dont deal well w/our winters up here and she knows it.
Maybe one or two more of them before moving somewhere south.
We just had grandson #3 a wk ago so……..
As of now, we are looking at buying an RV and doing the snow bird thing.
W/my job (selling fence) I can take winters off.
The plan is to bounce around until we find a place to call home, sell everything, and move one LAST time!
We shall see.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

...in the last year or so, the florida residential real estate market, especially along both coasts, has gone bonker's. its not uncommon for homes to be two to three times what they were, just three years ago...

I know.
Its crazy up here too.
Not what you’re seeing but….., maybe +50% in last 3 yrs.
Im watching.
I recently told a friend, who knows me….., I give up a gorgeous house, on 3 acres, the toy box from hell (32’ x 56’ w/13’ ceilings, heat and air, etc, etc) and take that money, move south and buy half the above??
The market will settle/adjust some by then but, I don’t have to ck the weather forecast to find out when I’m going to see the sun.
Im OK w/that.
The Mrs, I’m working on.

I'd have a helluva time moving back north. Those winters just get so damn long. I worked up in north Ohio for a winter, and while it wasn't as cold as it is in MN (where I'm from), that damn wind off the lake was wicked. We had a couple days that were in the high 30s/low 40s this year when I get up for work, and I was freezing my ass off. Funny how we acclimate to where we are. I love the north in summer, but being in construction, I've had enough of wearing 4 layers for work 4 months out of the year.
Make your wife stay outside one day next winter. That should change her mind.

...the much higher assessed value, and hence, the much higher taxes, is the clincher, with selling & moving. we are homesteaded here in florida, which means your taxes can't go up more than 3 percent a year. usually go up even less...

Florida is the not only place on the water... but don't let that stop you.
I bet I can get a deal on a place on Grand Isle, Louisiana after the hurricane...
But if you are going to play, you have to pay.
