    Are there any modifications that can be done to a ETEC 225 H.O.

    Always had Mercury's, hope to have one on the back of my new to me Stoker, but found a really nice boat, from the midwest its entire life, but is has the ETEC on it. I know NOTHING about these, is there anything I can do to get a bit more out of this? Reflash computer? Shave heads? anything??? HELP

    Not a ton... You could shave the heads a bit and squeeze a little more compression.... any modifications like getting a new EMM would be for the 3.4 liters not the 3.3's. Cone the gearcase, find a 16" midsection things like that.

    Put AV gas in it and good 30” prop and let it eat. Don’t shave the heads or modify it because you don’t have any way to richen it other than fooling the air temp sensor with a variable resistor.

    You can do all sorts of stuff if you want to sort out your own engine controller. I know of guys who add single big injectors to the intake tract and hose fuel in with a piggy back fuel pump for down and dirty nitrous builds. Cheap and easy on beater cars. Plenty of ways to get creative with power mods but how long you want it to last? How much power you want to make? Do you have a specific performance goal in mind?

    Set up is probably where you will get the most gains anyways. Hp is only part of it

    FWIW it is already a strong motor. Before I got old and migrated back to fast low effort boating I fished offshore. A lot. I put thousands of hours on motors.

    I can honestly say the most I was ever impressed by a demo boat was back in 2005 or 06... I took a demo ride on a Cape Horn 26 (a lot of boat) with twin 225's. With 3 people, full gas, 2 batteries, and a t-top the boat got up on a plane with one engine. Without changing the prop! It took a quarter mile but it hammered away until it was up and making 25 knots.

    At time I had 2 offshore boats. A Contender 25 with twin Yamaha 200 HPDI and a McKee 23T with the same engines. Neither boat would do this. No matter what prop I tried.
