    Awesome Week in Islamorada!

Had an awesome time in the Keys. We did some great snorkeling at Hens and Chickens reef, Cheeca Rocks and Alligator Light. Had amazing but hot days of boating both in the Atlantic Ocean and Florida Bay. Went to numerous lunches by boat including Islamorada Fish Co, Robbies and Hog Heaven. Did lots of paddle boarding around the islands in Florida Bay. We saw awesome marine life including Dolphins, Manatees, Sea Turtles, Sharks, Tarpon, Birds and more! My Pulsare 2400 saw speeds just shy of 70 mph loaded with gas and gear running an old Mercury Offshore 23 that was under propped! We were definitely the standout amongst all the center consoles!! The dock where we stayed was restricted to 20' boats.....I fibbed just a little and stuck out just a bit!

What was the tide swing there? Did you pickup any barnacles?

After a week in the water at Marathon I spent hours trying to dissolve all the tiny barnacles on my Aboat and my three jet skis.

Tide swing was probably 2 feet. No barnacles at all, maybe because I was on the Oceanside, not the bay...

As beautiful as it is now, you should have been there in the 60's. Same place with hardly no people. Everything was wide open. Very nice boat you have for running down there.

We ran all over the place on both the ocean and bay sides from Tavernier Creek on the north end to Lower Matecumbe key to the south. There's some great water to run at speed on the bay side! Just make sure you have a good chart plotter and stay in deep enough water! There are some real shallow spots all over the place on the bay side. As the old saying goes, "If you see brown, run aground!"

I grew up in Coral Gables, Miami. We spent a lot of time running around the far upper keys from Soldiers Key to Key Largo in the 70's/80's. I had a Velocity 230 that hit Biscayne Bay every weekend. We would run from Dinner Key to Islamorada Tiki Bar. I had a salt water fish tank and use to collect tropical fish all the time, waterski in the cove at Key Biscayne, hit the sandbar at Sands Key, frequent Monte Trainers and Sundays on the Bay...

Great video of running the mangroves. I didn't know there was enough water depth to run in there.

Glad you had a good time--it is great time to escape locally and relax! I have always been afraid of running on the gulf side without a ton of local knowledge.
