    water pump problems

i have water coming out only right side of motor 93 2.5l 280hp it does not feel like its getting hot on that side vs the other. im new to these motors so im trying to learn them. its a new pump only few hours on it if it stopped up where do i look for blockage? it was pumping fine while running at speed.

When you say water coming out of side of motor, where exactly do you mean? The lower unit, the mid section or the power head?

All of my motors had some coming out of the side of the lower unit. Always just considered it normal.

What part of the motor? If not sure, snap a picture showing it or where you can point it out.

If it is in the lower unit, probably no big deal. In the mid, probably a problem. If it is in the power head, definitely a problem.

Put your finger over the end of the hose it most likely will come out the outer side. My drag does the same thing at idle. Plane it off and i bet water squirts out both sides. That used to bother me too but it has done it 19 years and not hurt anything. The poppet is under the cover of the hose that is peeing. The water is just taking the easy way out. Thought about plugging the poppet cover and draining both heads off the thermostat housings like my old 2.4 but i was told to leave it alone.

Be careful running in a tub like that. I cooked a water pump doing that. The water level was below the impeller and it melted before it pulled it up. Make sure the water is as high as the impeller

If you have the muffs, garden hose attachment for the lower unit i would use that. It will force water to the impeller. Once you get moving at h high idle i think you will see water coming out both sides.
