    Enrichener solenoid

1992 2.5 L 175 horse. Difficult cold starting. Sometimes have to squirt fuel into carbs to start. Enrichener valve seems to only allow a tiny amount of fuel flow even when depressed manually ony one or two drops at a time come through. All hoses are patent and fuel flows freely from the carb float bowl. I recently replaced the non functioning enrichener, but even though new, it still only lets a tiny amount flow. Seems wide open when I blow through it with valve depresse.

    WTF??

You replaced the enrichener so the enrichener will work but did you position it at the right height when you installed it? You dont want the fuel to have to run upwards into the enrichener...just like how the enrichener works better sometimes with the trim down

Line from top carb float bowl to enrichener is definitely downhill.

I have to hold my key in for a manual count of 12 seconds. Then if it doesn't start, 10 more. Then she catches.

trim level or a tad negative... hold key in while crankin' tha thing till it farts, spits or tries ta start... if it doesn't start first time, raise fast idle a touch and hit start again without enrichner depressed... some will not put enough fuel in 'em with tha pre "turn over" bumps of "any length of time"..........

yeah, thats normal after initial cold start........... jus takes a lotta fuel ta start a cold one.. seems every carb merc is different with its little quirks with "cold starts".. findin' what it likes takes some playin' 'round a bit.

You may want to take the fuel hoses off and make sure they are clear and no bends in the routing. I actually increased the size of the hose to 3/16" ID from and to the enricher and 1/8" between the second and third carb. The 3/16" seems to be a good fit to the fittings. i also used a small sta-strap for added security.

On the first start of the day, I literally do a 10-12 count with key pushed in. then bump the starter. Usually takes another 8-10 count and then she fires right up.
