    Simon 335.

Anyone have a simon 335? Thoughts, performance vs a 300x? Anyone dropped in a 3.2 crank in one?

Isnt the 335 basically a stock promax with the 300x injector setup and a downdraft intake? If that is the case I am sure it is a nice improcment but still missing the porting and peak rpm of a 300X.

Well I was trying to hear from the horses mouth what exactly it is, but you cant pass the lady that answers the phone. What I have heard is that it is bored out to a 3.1, hydra tech tuner, ported, heads and the billet x intake and injectors. I read an article last night that states alot more. I will copy and paste it here.

With your donor engine, Simon completely disassembles the powerhead and measures it for replacement parts. He ports the cylinders to his specifications and completes any repair work (boring, sleeving and/or honing) that needs to be done. The engine is bored .030 inches oversize to achieve a 3.1L displacement (stock is 3.0L).

For reassembly, he uses lightened and balanced connecting rods, Vertex moly-coated pistons, a lightened and balanced flywheel, a specially flowed Simon high-volume intake manifold and reed cage assemblies, and a host of other ancillary performance parts such as a high-flow fuel rail, custom water diverter poppet valve, a cut exhaust tuner, and solid engine mounts (if not already equipped). He installs a set of high-compression (but still 91-octane-fuel safe) cylinder heads and a revamped electronic control unit with a race-derived fuel curve to handle the extra fuel requirements of the new powerhead.

I have one but have never run it. Just getting a little cabin fever and was wondering if there are as strong as they are supposed to be and durable. Guess there isnt alot more of them out there.

It is a promax...but I have heard a few guys putting a 3.2 stroker optimax crank in 300x motors with good results.

Piston leaves the block a bit with a 3.2 crank.

Back in my NHRA SFWD honda racing days we would use taller sleeves and a spacer between the block to improve rod stroke ratio. We made 800 whp back in 2003 on 4 cyls.

A good friend of mine put Simon heads and ECU on his 300x on his Mirage and got nothing from what I saw.
He was never satisfied with what he he got.

I had a set of copper head gaskets made to compensate for the same issue in a custom project.

Can also mill the top of the pistons depending on the shape/complexity.

    Dropped , No

Installed , Yes … adds aprox. 180cc to your current displacement.

*** Some trimming and fitting may be required ***

    Question is...is it worth it?

My guess is Yes it is worth it! You can take that Promax, bolt on every trick piece Simon ever made or thought about making and I doubt it would come close to the horsepower of a 300x with a stroker crank. In my mind, it just seems like the Simon/Promax route takes way more effort and expense.
