I was young, 19 or so , had a stem windin 283 sbc , put in 88ish chev short wheel base , 5 speed 4x4 , man that motor was a runner , had to use oil filter relocation kit and had oil lines backward and scalded every bearing in it. O that sucked

I remember learning the hard way that there has to actually be water in the cooling system for the temperature gauge to work!

Two rebuilds in a row sucks, a third time really tests your attitude. Speaking on behalf of a friend

Dont know if I built it wrong or not. But, I bought my 87 5.0 mustang in 2014(not my first by any means)...........its the one I have now with a 700hp 363. The engine only had 100,000 miles on it. I pulled it only because all the hoses were dry rotted and the aluminum parts were snowflaked......Seriously. I pulled it down and the bores looked amazing. So, I just put all new rings on the stock forged pistons. I soaked them in Berryman to remove all the old carbon. I installed new bearings too. I bought a brand new set of gt-40x heads and a nasty little nitrous cam from comp cams.

When I build a motor, either outboard or small block, I am a neat freak...........and a plastic bag goes over it every time I stop for the day. I turned the key on the motor and I had a knock. I new it wasnt a rod.....wrong kind of sound. I went through everything numerous times. Kept hearing this knock...on and off. The car never left the garage. Eventually, I said to my son,"We need to take it down till we find something". Got down to the heads and found cyl #1'S bore was trashed!!! A piece of metal had entered in there somehow, someway and decided to play PLINKO with the piston. It destroyed the piston and the bore. I couldnt find a replacement forged TRW that was 27 years old. ANd the block now needed boring. Worst feeling ever.

It sat for 2 years till I had the funds to build a Dart block ford. I figured that I wasnt gonna keep tearing down mustang motors forever..........so, I decided to go big...........one last time.

10-12 years old ran dads 1978 Hodaka 250 dirt bike around for a few days on strait gas... wouldnt run anymore till I turned the piston around on the wrist pin so it would run again and gave it back.
