Builder , assembler , last line of defense , whatever you chose to call it .. your the last guy in line to catch what could potentially be a mistake . That's why I called it building with the blindfold off . Dial bore gauge , micrometer set , a good quality digital caliper , ring file , long strip feeler blades , deck bridge and accurate torque wrench ( and for me a well lit area and a big azz magnifying lens ) .. are essential to lessen the chance of saying .. I don't what happened to it ..
Go-time , my apologies .. your correct , you didn't call them junk .. but the thread was quickly heading in that direction .. And it's good to see you had your blindfold off to see a familiar marking no longer there as well as a minor size difference ..

Chaz... it’s cool man, I completely understand where you are coming from and we should be thankful that vendors continue to support these product lines long after the OE has stopped. I was curious to see if my experience was unique or was an indication of things to come. That said, I was not pleased with the changes in these products as I think others will not be.

If you want a shelf Wiseco piston , their site says .. call Pro Marine.
If you want cast pistons , Pro Marine stocks them from cheap to outrageous.
Like I said , I have no doubt much of it comes from Asia.
I've bought plenty of parts that still had machining chips still in oil holes , burr's hanging off in critical thrust face area's .. Rings and bearings mis marked , mis labeled etc. It's always the builder / assembler's job to catch it .
When I was building race car chassis , I always said , I'd rather build two cars from the ground up , than do 1 motor .. they are like newborn babies , ya can't take your eyes off of em for a second ..
I think it's great to share info back and forth .. what else can we do with it ?
Put it in a U-haul trailer , and take it to the grave ? Never seen a U-haul hitched to a hearse before ..
Turning threads into group ****** piles , don't help nuttin . If you call the guy you bought them from … and ask , Have you noticed xxxx xx xxxxx , you'll prob get a thank you for letting them know ..

98 2.5L 200 efi its bone stock now but I squeaked a couple pistons up from what looks to be a pinched fuel line unfortunately. Looking to put as good or better than stockers back in. Will go for the low hanging fruit mods delete the oil inj and fill the void and maybe some mild port work. Likely add a Brucato or Promax ECU, spin to 7000 or thereabouts. Looking for the most performance I can get that will run reliably.

WSM or Vertex would be my choice.

WSM, Vertex, or Pro Marine all as good roughly as one another? Buy on price within these?
As for the source of the problem I can only hope it was that. The engine is completely OEM box stock with all black boxes and oil inj still on it. Im going to ditch all that stuff, clean up every little doo dad there is especially the fuel system and run pre mix. Hope that solves it but the fuel line was changed right when I bought it and it was too large for the little plastic guide that gets pinched by the cover to the tray and the line was definitely squished. I didnt notice any performance issue the fuel injection masked it well it just stopped mid flight. Hit the key and it was heat seized. Unfortunately I was in a bad spot near a shoal so I called for a rescue and had to run it a couple times to drive away from the shoal. Two holes low on compression so going over the whole thing.
Unless I get itchy with impatience and buy another mota but this is my only 2.5 and it was pristine, so I will do something with it. Kinda miss my old OMC lolHydrostream dreamin

Another good thing is wsm has thin ring pistons that promax came with and pro dosent have those ( least in a kit) and that's piston kit. Also I found its little cheaper (sumtimes) when u just buy what u need instead rebuild kit , that kit comes with lots extra gaskets and stuff u wouldnt need

Ya I’m gonna open it up before I buy parts. Might work on the hull first though. So much has changed the past couple weeks it’s been a whirlwind

Just to be clear , everything in a rebuild kit is necessary, excepting get alot extra gaskets , but u will want to use all seals ,bearings etc
Just end up saving little (sometimes) when u buy it all separate

Good info guys.
I have a few questions?
Wonder what company makes WSM, same as the Pro?
Vertex cost very close to Pro or WSM?
Does the 1.5 to 2.0 make a major difference in a non racing or high strung application?
Vertex is always my first choice for my application....just my 2 cents.
