Where to Start
Hey Guys, been awhile since Ive been here...been trying to get the boat/motor fixed for the season.
Boat is about ready, bolted the motor up.
problem:
@ 1st, only plug in to remote, hook up battery, then hit the key, just to see if the starter would engage. which it did.
Then wanted to get the tilt/trim wired up, I got it to move up but the battery died before I could figure out the wiring
Oreillys charged the battery for free. reinstalled, hit the key,,,
NOTHING!
I don't just want to start buying parts.....where to start looking for the problem? fuses are all good.
Thank to all the experts in advance.

Blu is up and green is down red is hot and black is ground. Two wire system will have two relays. Large green and large blu from trim motor to relays. Small blu and small green to relays from control. Red to start solenoid or another hot post. Three wire system will have two solenoids with same scenario. Solenoid will have one large post hot and other either green or blue. Small posts will have corresponding small green and small blue. Other small post to ground. That's pretty much it for tirm.

Thanks Rock from your input......
The trim is not really the problem for me, I just run out of battery before I could figure that out.
After charging the battery ,I had nothing. hit the key, starter would not engage..
I did purchase a new OEM voltage regulator, waiting for it to delivered. Ill get that installed , then go from there. If you think this is fun, wait til next weekend!

Euroski,
I took your advise and found out the voltage reg./ starter solenoid is bad.
I finally got the part in....I thou. I purchased OEM,,,,but I was wrong....anyway
On bad VR (OEM) no marking, but I did write on the back which way it come off the OB.
The new VR, same 4 threaded posts, 2 big and 2 small, big are for battery and starter. but I don't know which way it goes on.
I can turn it 180 deg. and looks the same....BUT new VR, both small posts, one is marked with and "I" other with an "S".
Cant find nothing on the net about this. only 2 ways this can be hook up....the right way or wrong way...
What do the I and the S stands for?
Any one ????
don't want to burn up a new part!!

You got several issues going on, correct
1- trim?
2- will not crank?
Not sure why you 're replacing the VR if engine doesn't even run yet
once running then the charging system can be checkedCheckmate 2002 Convincor 270 496 MAG-HO

Sorry, I thro. VR and starter solenoid was the same,,,,,it is not.. anyway,
I replace starter solenoid this morning. (part #817109A2)
With a test light, I have confirmed power to the S/Solenoid,
Tilt and trim work fine now, at the motor and Remote.
Turn the key, nothing! no clicking, nothing. If I push the key in ,choke, I can hear it click, not sure if its completely engaging or not.
I did jump it the starter just to see if the starter would engage, and it did, so the starter is fine.
I'm lost! Was trying to keep it out of the shop, caz we all know what B.O.A.T stands for!If you think this is fun, wait til next weekend!

Dave , thanks for that thou., Ill get to that in 1 moment.
I tried this 1st (after watching this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmDXhSgTUVo )
I wanted to confirmed or NOT I was getting power to the ignition post on the S/Solenoid.
I jumped it just like in the video. And it WORKED! Were getting somewhere now.
Now I test lighted that ignition wire with it removed from the post, turn the key, nothing.
so now, I'm not getting power from the key/remote, this narrows it down.
So I took Dave S NS/Switch idea and check it out. took my remote apart, all the grounds wires
inside were screwed down together and was very loose, I fixed it, but wasn't the problem.
I then by passed, jumped, the NS switch, nothing. So I'm gonna say it OK..
next ill do the same to the kill switch, haven't done that yet , but will asap,,,running short on time today.
Question:
Where does the remote get its power? From the pigtail plug?
(Sorry about the pics being sideways)

Wires circled in yellow are for solenoid and if U put a test lamp or voltmeter should have battery voltage when in start mode with key turned. also should here it click
Big red wire should be battery voltage- about 12v
Black wire goes to starter and if jumped with red starter should run

I have NO power coming from key to ignition wire on solenoid (see photo)
Test light confirmed this.
Red cable on solenoid is from battery, confirmed power there.
I can jump the 2 terminals, see photo, and starter WILL turn over.
Im NOT sure where the remote get its power. If the remote don't have power, it can NOT give power.
There must be power to the key switch, when turned to start mode, power goes to solenoid, this is NOT happening.
If you think this is fun, wait til next weekend!
