Quartershot / STV in the bay or chop?

I've read some info on these hulls, great boats. However, there isn't that much info on how they perform in saltwater / bay area or chop. I'm not talking 4ft seas, maybe 1-2ft chop, regular bay conditions. Also, will either one perform better in chop?

Spray in face is common, If you can stay on top flying over the tops your good.

I read that on a thread here, however members where saying quartershot hulls spray less than the stv's

STV’s suck in chop. At least mine does.

Quartershots and Mirages do WAY better.

Of course a lot depends on the weight of the hull.....anything light isn’t going to be happy. My hull is ~625# and it’s miserable in chop....not so much a spray issue but loud and feels like it’s going to rattle apart.

Then you also also have to take in the year of the boat. If you had Jack build you a new stv that weighs what my Summerford boat weighs, I’m sure it would do much better. Materials and the build process have come a long way in 25 years

Watch the video and you be the judge. My boat is heavy and very rigid with the extra structure that was added but it will run in the chop with anything out there that is equal length. You can ask around, many people have witnessed it first hand crossing Lake George or on the Jasper river run.

Mine did great great in chop up to 1', anything more than that was a very rough ride.

If you're getting spray in the face, you're not going fast enough.

As long as you get on top, they do fine IMO. Mine is a "heavy" one compared to most, at 825# bare hull. Double Kevlar layup. Lake Mead, Mohave and Havasu don't play very nice, but mine has always done well.

White caps? No problem.
