    Hydrostream core

Well boys and girls finally got my hands on a vking now I already know all about the core rot and stringers that every original stream has but my question is this is the second owner selling it to me and hes not 100 percent sure if the marina that put the new floor in for the first owner did the core or not so what would the best way to check if it's been done or rotted drill a 4in hole in the new floor in the front or under the gas tank and then drill into the core and see what comes out?

Usually rot worse in the back area. One hole on either side 1' from centerline and 1' off the stern. That should put you in the worst of it.
    What year is it?

You can buy a moisture meter at Lowes for $50. Some of the hydrostreams had the core completely disintegrate over time though. Just a void in between the fiberglass layers at that point. Moisture meter wont tell you anything if that's the case.

Niiice find. Congrats on it. I don't know how the Canadian guys built them. The later US ones had a fiberglass box stringer in the center. That was all, and all it needed. Mines an '83' and has the box. The core should be 1/2'' thick with 1/8'' of glass over it.

So would the middle stock stringer go right over the drain plug or stop short?

The stringer stops short of the transom.

This is a Canadian Edition Vision, should be very similar to how a V-King was laid up here. They were generally built better than American boats, but the core should still be checked. Mine is an 88 and was in great shape when rebuilt.

I think all three would be a good idea.
