After Reeds, stuffers, and hydrotec heads I've lost power.

Hi everyone. Just finished a lot of work to my 97 yammy ox66 250. I replaced the heads with hydrotecs, I put in chris Carson stuffers and reeds. While I was in there I did poppet valve, injector seals and screens, re o ringed the vst which is new within a year just saw some wet spots around regulator and then I put stainless hose clamps on every fuel hose connection. Also put in the appropriate amount of Lucas octane booster to get 94 gallons of 87 over 91 octane for the jump in compression.

Currently sitting at the dock scratching my head as to why I can't get over 4k rpm now. 5600 was not an issue before all of this. Am I missing something? Motor seems to run about as well as it did. Idle is a bit more harsh but throughout acceleration its just neutered probably 30-40%I really appreciate any guidance you can give. Thanks in advance.

Buy real premium 93-octane gas, not octane booster?

I doubt its the parts, probably poor quality fuel as David said. Do you have a portable fuel tank you can temporarily try?

Ok. Thanks. I will bring a can of 93 when I go put to try again later.

Update I talked to Chris Carson Marine. That guy is awesome if you don't have any experience with him. I was questioning my stuffer installation but he cleared that up. He thinks I'm down a cylinder or maybe even two. Recommended checking a few things like the sensor that kicks off 2 cylinders at idle and the tilt sensor. I have to run it and choke off the throttle bodys to see if dead cylinder is the issue. I have since checked the compression and it looks healthy at 148 +/- 3psi on all 6 cylinders. The top right plug looked dry compared to the rest tho so I am suspicious.

David I thought it might give me some performance issues but I didn't imagine this. Just trying to avoid disposing of a full tank of fuel. Obviously I planned to refill as needed with 93.

It was just a suggestion, most of those "octane boosters" don't actually work.
With the knock sensor on your motor, your timing would be retarded and power way down if don't have enough octane for the compression you have now.

Thankyou. That makes sense I will try that here in a couple hours. Just to be clear assuming the octane booster did nothing I have pretty fresh 87 in the tank.. i could have these symptoms running 87 with this compression?

87-octane is the "minimum" for your motor; without the new reeds, stuffers, and aftermarket heads; so yeah... I would think so.

Also give the o2 sensor a good cleaning and see if the barrel fitting behind it is not plugged up.

Take 10 gallons out and replace with 10 gallons toluene, if it's handy.

    Your 87
((87x.897)+(114x.103))=89.8 + the additive you used will make it higher. 10.3% total volume.

Saves dumping 97 gallons, just 10 gallons of 87 octane for the lawnmower.

Don't forget to add additional oil if you premix for the substituted 10 gallons.

If you remove 20 gallons and add 10 toluene you'll be at 90.1 without the extra additives. Solid 3 numbers higher than 87 octane. 11.5% total volume.

I wasn't able to go out and retest yesterday it started raining and didn't stop.. today is drain the tank day. Got some buddy's coming to get some gas for their cars. Lol. I figure whether its the cause of this or not I need to put 93 in the boat. The toleune is just not going to be cost effective. Sourcing it here is $10 a gallon a least. Thanks for all the help I will keep you posted.

    Toluene, 5 gallons about $ 65 , $130 for 10 . ?

    https://www.cqconcepts.com/product/t...-99-5-gallons/

If you can sell your 87 octane or store it for later use?
Otherwise it's a loss. Add the cost of the toluene to the cost of the 87 tank full plus the Lucas cost or compared to 97 gallons of premium. Would think the 10 gallons of toluene the best. With your Lucas in the mix you should have the grade.
