American Chopper was first telecasted 17 years ago, on TV in 2003. Reality TV shows, then, started becoming a popular genre on TV. And this motorcycle show was a forerunner and viewer success (and albeit an inspiration for latter TV custom car shows) of custom shops on television.

Paul Sr. and Junior had a tumultuous relationship in senior’s custom bike shop. Arguably Paul Jr. was the better fabricator, and senior the overbearing shop foreman.

I think the car guys witnessed these two-wheelers making money on TV, and then decided their automotive garages could do the same. Make extra revenue being on television.

Photos of Paul Sr. and his two sons.

Yes this is a Car Show thread, but on my way home to watch the car shows, I am choosing to ride that white bike at the bottom right in the photos. That is my pick between the 4 bikes.

Never cared for the bolt together boys (American Chopper). And 31 years ago I started building this, Shoved a Sporty motor in a Jap frame. Had to make just about everything as little off the shelf stuff would work..

Robby321, I still think the "bolt together boys (American Chopper)", paved the way for all the subsequent Car Shows on TV. The car guys realized all these cable TV channels needed content TV shows, and the car shops could make money too on TV.

Finnegan's Garage (car & boat show on YouTube), illustrates how he operates his, hot rod twin-turbo jet boat. And the jet boat's out-drive mechanism.

    Finnegan's Garage goes to SEMA.

Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is on my bucket list to attend.
But it is closed to the general public.

When does one not scrap the vehicle and restore it, even though the cost might approach the cost of buying a new ride?

When it is sentimental. The 27' center console you got your captain license with, and did over 60 trips to the Bahamas. And a couple time you felt the boat saved your life.

    Part 2.

The 27' console, gets instrumentation and accessories installed, and the engine mounted.
And the owner has a beaming smile. Time to go fishing.

American Pickers TV show years ago, introduced me to the value of barn finds.
Discovering vehicles put away in storage, which have not been used for many years.

AP is one of the early pioneers on TV, in discovering and buying autos from barns and old garages.

Watched a little today of random car show and was reminded of a pet peeve I have with all car shows. Why do the editors feel the need to over dub every tig welding scene with the sound of a blind man welding over rusty paint with flux core wire?
