    Optimax oil pump question.

Glass guy I know repaired a transom. In the process he de-rigged the motor (200 opti) When re-rigging he hooked the pressure hose up to the t fitting on the engines oil tank. DUH...Flooded the engine with oil. Never seen this fubar before. He called me to check it out and that is what I found wrong. Cleaned the oil from plenum and hooked the oil supply up correctly. Engine runs with no beeps at idle. ( lotta smoke) My question is, did he do damage to the oil pump? I am tempted to do a prime sequence on it to see the oil pump work and the oil level in the engines oil tank drop. Would this be a sufficient test of the oil pump. He does not want to give the boat back to the owner w/o being sure it is ok. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Seems like hooked up right to start with
Pressure side does go too oil tank on motor
Don't know how can flood like that but anyway shouldn't hurt oil pump it just a open n closed valve that uses oil bottles pressure to move oil into motor
Put motor in break in mode and listen for oil pump should be ok

Thanks for the response 2jz. He had run the AIR pressure line from the crankcase fitting right to the tee pressurizing the motor mounted tank and sending oil thru the system. It pushed 1/2 the oil in the engine mounted tank thru the inj. system. I will activate prime and listen to the pump this pm.

#1 - I was uncertain of the Tee you referred to on oil line but I know that - BLUE STRIPE - to Blue STRIPE - I believe is pressure line .
#2 - you can put in break n mode by pumps of the shifter- if he pumped it installing and checking shifter . ?? I believe I have read they get plenty of oil internally and possible fogging as well - that I heard wasn' recommended . Please correct if wrong .
On initial start up after after breaking seal on oil res, in boat - YOU SHOULD VENT the motor cowl res, run motor to vent air and once starting to spill out - slightly tighten . Done . - if not vented it will pull from res, under cowl to point of allarm .
This info may allready be knownbut does DDT show in break n mode or last set recently ?

Thanks kelly, the blue line is oil. Done it a hundred times. And I know the procedure. Should be simple? Buttttt. My bud is a glass guy and is always in a big hurry to get the boats out of the shop. He just rigged it in a rush, didn't pay enough attention and freaked when oil came running out the prop. Haha, it was a mess. After a good laugh I straightened the oil hoses out. But I am slightly concerned about the pump. Find out soon if its f'd.

I know your a knowledgeble guy - while idling has it vented the small res, by just loosening top cap and if it' functioning it will begin to spill from slight pressure - tighten if so and hopefully the pump does it's thing well into higher rpm range -
    And beyond .
I would suspect the Opti will go into limp if it senses a problem with oil delivery . I am just new to my motor but I think there is enhanced DDT capable functions and it would let you know .

Yes hooked up right and vented at the small tank and it filled with oil. All correct to run now. This is not a normal problem. But just when you think you have seen it all.......
*EDIT * Did the prime and the tank level on the motor fell, oil pump was clicking. So I guess it's fine.
