in the diesel world black smoke is excessive fuel, white is to much air, they are dumping that much fuel to um and haven't burnt off the excess yet , maby
most overnite successes usually take at least 10 years

Just to confuse things a bit...., also thinking about an MG sports car.
A Sunday car instead of a car on a trailer car.
Second guessing my ambitions
Always loved the MG’s simplicity and efficiency.
Small car = lightweight = not needing big power.
Stock their about 2k lbs w/a 100 hp.
Not great numbers but add the fun factor.
Then add power.
Just order a tuner book for their motors.
Looks like you can get close to 200 hp for a full race motor and maybe 150ish from a well designed/tuned street motor.
Plus Mid Ohio Race Course is a 1/2 hr from my house, for track days.
Looks like you can shave 1 - 200 lbs of weight too.
Now we’re at 1800 lbs divided by 150 hp which gets us to 12 lbs per.
Still not great but I always figure 10:1 is where it becomes fun.
I remember talking to an MG owner one time telling him their lack of power is the only turn off.
His reply was that you could get them with 4.10 gears and I needed to drive one w/them.
Always had an attraction to the smaller motors that ran good.
I think it started w/going to the inboard races as a kid and seeing my first 850cc inboard.
It was like a science project.
Had tricks going on everywhere!
I remember the little, clear oiler bottle for the propshaft. It only held a few Oz, enough for one heat.
We’ll see.
Already have 3 unfinished projects.
And no, I wouldn’t put an Ls motor in oneI'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Save yourself the headaches with those MGs Instigator. They are a nightmare of problems. If going in that direction, just grab yourself a nicely used Mazda Miata and have a trouble free Sunday convertible/track day capable auto with a multitude of aftermarket parts selections. Even some extreme options if so inclined.
I CAN ALWAYS MAKE ANOTHER DOLLAR, BUT I CANNOT MAKE ANOTHER DAY

Stopped at a friends shop yesterday and saw his his just purchased S-10 drag car.
My Bud is sharp but bought it from someone who was not, and they built the truck and the 383 motor.
Ran for **** at start, my boy dialed it in and headed for the track.
W/3.43 gears and zero tune...., he made four eleven oh passes!
With 1.60’s 60 foot Times which is bad ass for what he had.
He puts gears in it and he has 10 second truck.
2600 lbs
Said he couldn’t believe the number of S-10’s at the track.
I surmised......, GM car bodies getting stupid expensive, cheap S-10 style trucks, huge engine bay making it easy to work on...
Way cool to see.
He paid $7k for it.Last edited by Instigator; 09-23-2020 at 04:40 PM.

Started off with a 600rwhp 4 cylinder I built as a kid. Had a mustang and a few LSx trans ams. I‘be got the diesel bug now and I’ve been learning and tweaking this old 12 valve Cummins.
Main priority is buying an Allison GS tho lol. I’m not spending too much on anything else until I got one in the garage.
