Its not usual for a 302 block to break at the 400 mark. Actually, I have never heard of them breaking at 400...........but I'm a nobody. I have heard numerous stories at the 500 mark. I haven't heard of many in the 450 mark either. But people like to put a girdle on the mains and think it helps.....it may to the umpth degree...........but I seen the pics where they go like someone bowled a strike!!

I cant endorse a motorsport block either..............for standard strokes, they are fine, for strokers.............garbage!!! I was on the fence when I was deciding which block to go with........ford or Dart, I saw pics of the ford block. The cylinder castings are too short(meaning, they don't support the piston at the bottom of the cylinder)!! The larger stroke/short rod pulls the piston way down, and a lot is unsupported at the bottom of the travel. I think Mahle was the only one whose piston was ok because it was a very short piston. Mahle pistons don't come in the stroker kits, so...........

The Dart block has much deeper cylinder bores..........well worth the 100-200 bucks more...........and it made up my mind as to what block I was gonna go with. I have no idea why Ford didn't have deeper cylinders.........no reason for it. But if you aren't stroking the motor...........the ford block is still a good piece. But its like they half- a$$#d it!! and they didn't need to.

I like the 347/363 because it looks like a 302 in there.........no taller deck. Everything bolts up with no changes.........no special adapters and no special hoods either.

Local guy had a belt blower motor, mild. He said it let go earlier than expected. Then swapped the Motorsports block and he was happy.

Either way, if you want longevity you need the support .
Would like to build one to swap a 5.0HO , stroker and goodies. Or maybe swap for a coyote and goodies but the little motor is a good fit.

I grew up as a GM fanatic. Trans Ams and Chevy trucks were my jam. Nowadays I miss that coupe more and more. They are just rowdy when setup right.

With chromoly everything underneath and coil overs that car was just on another level compared to the F bodies I had owned. In the future I see another coupe, with good suspension and a TKO 5 speed, but it’s gotta have a Vortech blower.

long live hotrods. The need to feel g forces through my body has remained constant in my life since childhood. It can still make me feel like a kid sometimes. Smiling until my face hurts.

Yes it is......like squeezing a big block in there.......side to side!! Tight squeeze between the towers...........(coyote motor)

FMP.........just do it already!!! You cant here it calling yur name? Build me......build me...............

Bateman.......nobody mentioned the sound of a 5.0 yet!!! I bet you miss the sound of that too!!! I tell you what, the sound of a very healthy 5.0......I mean 6.0 with a 3" exhaust???????????????? it takes things to a whole new level of SICK!!! Just ask me how I know......

I had to put full pipes on the car because you couldnt hear yourself think with dumps past the muffs!!!! Then it was the baddest sounding 5.0 mustang I had ever heard up close.

But I have to be honest........flowmasters suck........I didnt like em then and I dont like em now.........straight thru designs make more power period. Flushmasters.....I mean flowmasters dont measure up.

Keefallan, you’re right about that. It had a stock bottom end, but trick flow top end, cam and longtubes. I’m having a hard time remembering what mufflers were on it, but it was x-pipe and dumped after the mufflers. Got a lot of compliments on it hittin’ a lick at the gas station.

    Yes.
Needs to be complete and a driver.
    Perfect? No.

Youll spend a fortune on a project you didn’t know were missing parts.

Agree. But after buying just about every part for a fox on my convertible, they sure are the cheapest out there to buy for!!

I will say this, if you opt for the 87-93's, make sur the quarter window trim is in good shape. Its not replaceable, and you have to buy a complete window to fix the problem. LMR is the only one who makes an aftermarket window. 4 eyed cars don't have this problem. FYI

Also, the aftermarket tail light lenses...no good.......unless you buy the whole assembly(pretty good).Ford stuff shines here.
