300xs fuel line question
On a 2017 mercury 300xs is there supposed to be a primer bulb on top of the tank. I had one for my old motor can I do without that? Thank you for the help and your time.

You shouldn’t need it, but their handy when you don’t have a ddt or the duck valve gets opened.

You do need a primer. If you hit it and fill the vst before initial starting it will help to prolong the life of the low and hi pressure pumps. There is a priming procedure using the primer. Hit the bulb. Turn the key for 10 secs. Turn off. Prime again. Hit key, 10 sec, off. Do this several times to completely fill the vst and eliminate air. Opt's are very fuel sensitive. Pumps will fail if not fully primed.

My buddies' boat is a 2004, only time he ever hits the primer is when he changes filters.... he can let the boat sit for 3 months and it will fire right up without the primer, in 16 years, has not lost a pump....... But, yes, the right way to do it is to pump the bulb until it's hard before you start it up after sitting fo more than 12 hours.....
