Maybe it be won't be too long and we'll be coring boats structurally with battery storage, using electric drives and having a renewable electricity supply as part of the consumer purchase.

What about Suzuki? I rarely see them talked about here. But then I don't pay much attention to boat anchor four strokes.

There was an article on BRPs increasing sales and optimism in today’s business paper. At the end it mentioned that Evinrude had lost money for years and was being shut down. 5% of their workforce.

They weren't forced. They (and Mercury) rushed them to market to get the credits.
They could have chosen to wait like Yamaha did.<object id="__symantecPKIClientMessenger" data-supports-flavor-configuration="true" data-extension-version="1.0.1" style="display: none;"></object>__PRESENTMarkus' Performance Boating Links:

Well, they weren’t the first to tank it...
Built by an American, who was Norwegian born, emigrated to america in 1882, at the age of 5 yo. The Canadians tried to fix it, but gave up after 20 years. They should get credit for trying
That's a nice way of putting it!
I suppose you also say
"She was hit by the car of a drunk American who was Mexican born, emigrated to America in 2006 at the age of 5"<object id="__symantecPKIClientMessenger" data-supports-flavor-configuration="true" data-extension-version="1.0.1" style="display: none;"></object>__PRESENTMarkus' Performance Boating Links:

I don't think that's true at all. DI was the only way to meet the "proposed" or "draft" regulations they were facing at the time... none of them could afford to sit around and hope that the deadlines would get pushed back.

It was not a marketing problem. It was a product problem.
Firstly, Yamaha, which was the world leader in 2-stroke technology, went 4-stroke long ago. Mercury did so more recently despite having a DFI 2-stroke that was at least as good and in some respects, e.g. fuel efficiency, better than the BRP product. Those companies could not convince people to buy DFI 2-strokes either.
Second, Evinrudes were expensive and rather mediocre with no meaningful advantage over competing products, e.g. they were at least as heavy, ugly and complicated as the current crop of 4-strokes, and, as you can see in this thread, they were not particularly trouble free either. Add to that the 2-stroke stigma, and you have a product that is very hard for someone to want to buy, and therefore very hard for BRP to sell.
While I hate to see them go - that light 3 cylinder 150 seemed sweet - it was not a product that the market wanted. Marketing cannot change that.
It is like my friend who works for a car manufacturer here in town who said "Until we had the new XC-90, we did not understand that there are that many people out there who are willing to pay $70,000 for a car". I told him "That is because you did not have a car that anyone would pay $70,000 for"<object id="__symantecPKIClientMessenger" data-supports-flavor-configuration="true" data-extension-version="1.0.1" style="display: none;"></object>__PRESENTMarkus' Performance Boating Links:
