Even though I called them ugly a couple of posts up, I don’t disagree with you about being able to get used to it. I probably could. I do think their looks were too funky for the market, especially combined with their heigh price and heavy weight. Even with the looks, If they had been priced right and weren’t too heavy to re power certain classics, they might have made it. Who knows? The classic Boston Whaler crowd really liked to re power with the G1 ETECs for both weight and looks, for example.

As GM recently dropped Olds and Pontiac, Chrysler dropped Plymouth, Mercury dropped Force and Mariner, etc.

FY19 $492M on the marine. That's just a quick look.

I think we better move this whole Evinrude production to Ontario and make it economical sound.

That and earlier they were reporting 650 employees, more clarity on that now.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

Theres a bigger issue here that is impacting all manufacturing. We are moving towards an "on demand" lifestyle where the old concept of build then sell is losing ground. Manufacturing that can be nimble with respect to ebbs and flows of demand without mountains of debt leverage or subsidies are going to win this transition, and win big at that. Think Amzn prime vs flea bay, one is running away with the market because the in demand aspect functions way better and the predictability of costs are far superior. The product is available on both

[QUOTE=WavetoWave;3210551]My take on it in the link below. And I don't think they are as ugly as some think, take some getting used to but kind of cool in their own way. The steering was really innovative. Can't blame the engineers for thinking outside the box.

Great article. I too have been Mercury since birth but the loss of Evinrude is tragic for all outboard owners.

    Thank you
Anyone celebrating this situation is obviously too stupid to understand how many lives will be affected in a very negative way. Im not seeing people on here doing it but plenty on facebook.

More to this then a division making good profit being closed due to " streamlining " or " generic products". ChinaBrunswick forced something where they had leverage. To me it's hostile. Someone's yes men on the Board bending over.

It's more like Ford eliminating "sedans" than GM or Mercury dropping "cosmetically different" products... but maybe they actually believe the ghost drive is going to make outboards obsolete and they just shanked Mercury into committing to produce them during the "transition" away from outboards altogether. I dunno.

Come on , the new triples also with tillers , the very recent cosmetic changes to the big G2, they don't do this if previous quarterly or annuals are so poor that viability is issue. Earnings don't reflect this scuttling.

NO. That is exactly the kind of things you do when a product is struggling.

Wheres the breakout on Evinrude vs boat companies? Its clear where they are making money and not making money. Also $450 mil is approx 5% of the overall outboard market worldwide. Its nothing.
