Thread: BRP just discontinued all E-TECS

The dealers were doing everything they could to say it wasnt a 2 stroke but then the potential customer asks if it takes oil and your back at step one again and they go hmm sound like a 2 stroke it must smoke... though I really think that could have all changed over time if the motor was all it was hyped to be... Its the engineers job to say what will and will not work for the application. Perfect example.. when a neodimium magnet is subjected to salt water it will fail very quickly, plated magnets will hold up better but will fail shortly too, now a good coat of epoxy will eliminate nearly any evironmental problems all this can be found on the net in 2 minutes... now it doesnt take a rocket scientist to know if the flywheels are failing at an alarming rate and their under warranty and cost $800.00 that maybe we should spend $1.00 and atleast paint these with some epoxy and end the problem..NOPE 5 years later and still bare bare assmagnets stators irons are bare metal, come on if your a brp engineer out of work over this shame on you.., Yes im ranting,I have been running this brand for years and sick of the stupidity,a 2 year old would say hey you might otta paint that just sayin.. Thats just one thing i can go on and on, just same old shizit diferrent day.

I think them trying to stick to 2 stroke when everyone else went to 4 stroke was the beginning of the end. I have 2 boats around the same size with a pair of 300g2's and the other with f300 yamahas. The only real world advantage I see with the etecs are a lower cruising rpm at the same speed as the f300's. Thats it. I like everything on the yamahas better. Close to the same weight also. Plus, I regularly see yamaha f300 engines have north of 4000 hrs. This is not comparing yamaha to brp, I am just saying that for them to have done better they needed a comparable engine.
ps...I forgot the maintanance interval on the etec was 5 times longer than the yamaha. etec needed more repairs than the yamaha.

Penny pinching bean counters not willing to properly market or resolve simple issues. How much oil in a 4 stroke sump, how much oil does the weekend or seasonal Erude owner use per year ?

So I did not hear anything about mercury buying out brp's outboard line? or did I miss something here? I thought brp is just dropping outboard motors?

I'm with you but i have several dealer friends and they all say the same things... the people are brain washed on the 4 strokes. i agree with you guys the marketing should have tried to hype it on a different front, regardless if it was super reliable it would have held its own in the market and i truly believe the 2 stroke etec is way better in the smaller hp ranges. The g1s were really running good and getting some impressive hour counts when they phased them out, i have a 2005 with 1800 hrs and have done very little to it, a great motor all in all..

The big thing is going to be service parts going back to OMC and forward.

Chainsaws, weed wackers, snowmobiles, and outboards, should always be 2 strokes. "If it don't smoke, it must be broke!"

Mercury is not buying any part of Evinrude according to anything I have read. If they are doing something in the background, who knows. But Evinrude had to do something, they own many boat companies and no longer have motors to put on them.
Basically what it means is any boat company owned by Evinrude will now have Mercurys hanging on the back going forward.
