Then the Merc V8 which was replaced by a 200G2 on a Nitro. The G2 has better hole shot, better MPG and higher top speed.

Speaking of who invented the outboard and outboard manufactures going out of business, do yourself a favor and visit an outboard museum. I've been a few times to the one in Hayward, Wisconsin very, very cool history and SO many brands you never knew made motors.
(maybe they can put a G2 in there too now! I know too soon, bad joke!)

...yes, been to museums with lotz of outboards...there were literally hundreds of makers of outboards in the early days. so many you couldn't keep track of them all. they were a sign of how ambitious, prosperous & inventive our country was then. there were an incredible amount of car makers too, that nobody has even heard about. and on & on. family has been involved in museum work forever.

On fuel economy? Not true from my casual observation and conversations with people i know that have gone from opti to 4s. Mostly fishing guides running between 16' thru 26' single engine boats.

I'm talking on the new V6 and V8 engines. I've repowed a couple optis with them. Its not much but it just edges it out. Don't think it would really even be enough to see a difference in the wallet
Up until that point the opti was better. The O2 sensor on the new motors really helps fine tune the fuel burn.Last edited by RSWORDS; 06-04-2020 at 10:50 AM.
