1986 Mercury Inline Six 90HP Ticking Sound - Video

Hi all, I got an 86 Mercury 90 that I’ve had for about 5 years on my Glastron GT150. It was rebuilt about 5 years ago due to low compression in one cylinder. It’s got about 85 hours on it now since the rebuild and has been running strong. I developed a ticking / clacking type sound coming from the middle part of the engine around the center carb area. Besides sound, the engine appears to be running fine. Still gets up to higher rpm ranges and throttle response is strong. I haven’t really ran it too much since the sound started as I’m a bit worried it could be just the start of a bigger issue. I did quite a bit of searching but can’t find to many folks out there with the same issue so not sure what it could be. I haven’t done a compression test yet but that is going to be my next check. Any suggestions on things to check would be appreciated. Thanks!

To me it doesn’t really sound like a dry bearing as I picture more of a screechy sound and this sounds more like a tick. I could be wrong though. Idle seems pretty solid and motor doesn’t cut out when at idle speed in no wake areas, etc.

Eh sounds like a reed but...did you check the gasket behind the fuel pump?

Haven't checked that yet. I'll take a look. Thanks for the suggestion!

Nice motor, hope you find the source of the noise.
