2.4 tilt tube nut/ socket size
Anybody know what socket fits Over the nut on the tilt tube? I need to hold it still on the port side so I can tighten my steering cable all the way. I assume it’s some thin walled unit but none of mine seem to fit.

You can wedge a big screwdriver in the left side if you have too.

BTW .. the shaft diameter is 1.032" Like John Deere , Merc can't bring themselves to making parts that use "normal size" hardware ..

Chaz, my stab side nut keeps loosening a bit and then my steering cylinder slops side to side and then she chines like a bitch. How much torque do you tighten it down to on starb side? Loctite blue or just way f tight?

We tried and still use Teflon washers on each side of the trim cylinder . Delrin bushings in the eye loop and side bushings . Tried a few different materials to replace the wave washers on the tilt tube , but that made it too good .. and when you tap the trim button the move twice as far as you wanted it to go. It was actually too smooth. I went back to putting new wave washers up top and new nylock jam nuts up top . Bottom the port side nut out against the O-ring while in a soft vise and assemble the unit and tighten the starboard side until the bracket won't move and then back the nut off two flats.
Most front mounted steering systems come with a locking split collar that screws up against the nut and you lock it down with a allen bolt . Then the aluminum cover with the zirk fitting goes on.
Is that the system you have … ?
