Strong paint for a fast hull.
I'm doing a total restore/ hull modification on a carlson cv 16. I have the paint lined out except for the bottom. Anybody no of a good paint that can survive the water friction? NOT GELL COAT!!!!!! Most boats that I have seen painted are stripped bare in the pad area from the water.p

Wild Man paints his Liberators with base coat clear coat automobile paint and he does a lot of them so it must hold up I would think.

Awlgrip or Imron are typically the go to for marine hulls though they are a bitch to apply correctly and are very difficult to repair. Not really a DIY application.

I have pained a few boats with imron, now axalta imron-af polyurethane single stage and it held up well on the bottom, 85mph. I recently redid an STV and talked to a few high-end paint guys and both said not to use base clear below the waterline even with an activated base coat which some say will work. I didn't paint the bottom pads but i figured the sides will get some hard spray so i went with single stage on the sides. I used the ppg deltron dbc base on top with imron on the sides and nose then cleared everything with ppg clear. One of the pros said if you want it to stick... stay within the crosslink coat times so you get a good bond between the coats, if you let it sit too long you gotta re-sand n prep again. Dave
