    Steering upgrade advice needed

I just replaced the stringers and floor in a cvx16 and stiffened the hull up a bit. Have an xr4 on it and it just had single cable steering. Are any of the cheeper off brand hydraulic systems on eBay any good? There seem to have good reviews. I realize the whole feedback /feel debate. The guy that will be driving it most often I don't feel comfortable with a lot of torque to fight at the helm.

Want to order something and really don't know what the best bang for the buck is. If we have to spend more we will. I don't want to skimp.

Any advice would be appreciated. And what kind of steering wheel do I need on a hydraulic helm pump if we go that route? Been awhiy since I had my boat out which has sea star. I should maybe run and take a look at it

    Thanks

I looked at all the options and went with Sea Star Pro. Would like to see where you go with this also

Do the eBay systems even have parts availability? I won't mess with that personally. Stuff can go quite wrong in a hurry in regards to steering, the few extra bucks saved just aren't worth it IMO.

I don't remember the brand but I saw it mentioned here awhile back on a search. The poster spoke positive about it except for that output of the particular model he bought. Took more wheel turn to go full range

the only reason I ask is, I never knew there was such a thing, as an off-brand hydraulic boat steering system. there are only two or three names in the business, that I even ever heard of, for regular single engine pleasure boat V-6 engines.

I think uflex was one of the brands I saw mentioned. Complete kit with hoses is around $600. Seastar non pro is around a grand without hoses. So it's not a few bucks savings. If we really needed $1200 staying on this old boat than so be it but have been dumping alot of money into the restoration
