Agree with Dave, more than likely low side of stator bad that’s feeding the switchbox on left bank. Just as you switched the boxes with no change, now just switch the sets of stator wires from box to box, so the power supplies are switched. If it switches to right bank, wallah bad stator

Switched the stator wires today from one box to the other and that meant that now the right bank has no spark. So the conclusion: Bad stator (thanks Dave). I took the stator the older "parts motor" and replaced the Bad stator. That gave the engine alot more life but I still have more spark on the one bank than the other. Just an old stator or?
When trying to find the correct stator I get a little confused here: http://www.marineengine.com/parts/me...ignition-coils
There are 3 different stators, which one to buy? 398-5454A 7 , 398-5454A 32 or 398-5454A 35?

I personally have diagnosed stators and switch boxes with nothing more than a #2phillips screwdriver arcing from plug wire to block
Still don't own a dva meter.
Jerry Snieder in New Albany Indiana taught me that almost 25 years ago.
Ive ran an 87 XR2 for years and years, it's had a few stators in it's time. Put new one straight on out of the box, she will go bad just laying on the bench...haha
