Last I read the boat was at an aircraft fab and repair shop having a new tail fin with a horizontal wing fitted, much like the '77 Spirit. This was a month or so ago.
According to the update, the plan was always to fit this type of tail before they started going stupid-fast, but did the initial testing without it.
They have a Facetube page:

The boat looks really good in the video.
Some of the clips showing it getting the speed up too.
I am lucky enough to know Ken and call him a friend.
Even luckier to have spent a day at his place (15 yrs ago) to listen to his story and hear his view of the attempts by other teams, at upping his record.
And seeing one of his new boats, at the time.
He is a special person.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

One would think at his age the only record setting would be racing to shuffleboard @ shady acres

Another way to look at it is... what does he have to loose.

I just got off the phone with Ken. He sounds good and he is very proud of the progress his son David and the crew have made with the new boat. The boat is every thing he hoped it would be. They are no hurry to make a record run but it will happen.
I am like Gary in that it is such a privilege to be able to call Ken a good friend. God's speed guys.

I must say that I am really jealous of you guys that know Ken! I've been a huge fan ever since I first saw coverage of his record on the local news. I was fourteen at the time. As I recall he and Spirit were appearing at the local boat show in San Diego so the news showed a short clip of his run.
His determination and "don't let 'em tell you it can't be done, just go do it" attitude were a great influence on me. I didn't listen, I just went and did it (whatever it was at the time) and it's made for a great life. Still is, as a matter of fact.
Next time you talk to him please thank him for me!Cheers,

Update from the Warby boys... Wing/fin mounted to the boat. Looks huge without the cowl in place. Probably gunna look huge with it in place!
I guess at three bills you take all the help you can get!

Looks like a top fuel dragster wing.

Going by the cord length it looks to be more of air straitening devise . Hard to tell if there is any bias towards lift or downforce , appears to be fairly even like a NACA 12
With abbreviated spill plates it looks like they didn't want to "trap" much air .
It's kind of odd that there is no visible means of angle adjustment or wickerbill .
A lot of effort to slow the steering , but if that's what it takes to keep it going straight …
In comparison to a state of the art triple element Fuel wing , which is all about capturing all the air it can to provide downforce ..

Cool stuff, didn't the original boat have a big wing too. Wont take much angle at those speeds to trim it, maybe some shim washers under the mounts like we do on the hughes 500 T tails LOL.
