Larger STV - Mirage style hull

I hope you all don't mind me posting this thread but I have noticed a gap in the performance boat offerings for today's V8 Mercury 250-300R motors that have that set you back in your seat acceleration that we became used to with our Stv's and Mirages with the aging and discontinued 2.4 and 2.5 platform. Most all offerings today are in multiple engine platforms and out of reach financially for most of us.

Do you all think there is a market for a larger STV, Mirage style boat that would handle the weight of a 300xs 250-300R motor?

Yes, and hopefully the all-composite 21' and 22' Liberators and the Talon 22 fit the bill for lots of people. These boats are not huge, but handle rough lake water well according to their owners. They cost the same or less as a modern 21' bass boat, and easily hold these V8 motors. Most importantly, they go really fast! Now, a 21' all-composite Euro? That would be fun too!

yes, I believe so!! I was looking for one but don't want a 1200 lb hull, that would defete the purpose of what I'm looking for. A 4 seater Euro is nice, but you can't put a 300r or 450r on it, or can you?

If Tuff can make a business out of small boats, I think there is a market for a 21/22 Mirage/STV Euro type boat....little wider/deeper tunnel than the 18' variants. The Liberator's run extremely well with those new V8's....I like that performance with a newer looking modern cat hull. The 21/22 Liberator looks like an 80's eliminator 21 daytona...which is a timeless design but I am looking for a modern hull. Maybe something that looks like a bigger mirage with wrap around windshield....the aggressive design of the Ski Racer and that it still has 4 seats is a nice compromise stretched to 21/22. Also something like a scaled down Eliminator 25 speedster.....22' wrap around windshield... would also be nice. Boat business is tough particularly for a boutique model or design...there is bigger money in bigger hulls, or wakeboats, or pontoons, or center console...so it has a be a good business person, low overhead and knowing they are not going to sell a lot of them. Not exactly a venture capital type thing...more of a passion project.

Roark had a set a of molds for a 23. He was worried about the cost and never put them into production. The boat used the same interior dimensions as the Euro. I told him that I would take one back in 96' and had two other guys that wanted on as well. Supposedly the molds are still some where close to Hendersonville and it would be a perfect 450 candidate.

I'd be interested in something to bridge the gap. Seems the liberator 21/22 is the next step up in size and I'm just not a fan of the looks. Those upswept sponsons look too dated. I know they run great and offer additional size compared to the STVs and Mirages. Somebody on here was running the v8 300r on a euro I believe. The 450 adds quite a bit of weight so that may not work well. I'm still waiting for Merc to kick up the new V6 four stroke as a viable replacement for our beloved 2.5s. Make the V6 275 or 300hp normally aspirated so no added weight. Seems very attainable considering the displacement.

I have always loved the race inspired styling of the Mirage and would love to see that look in a larger platform like a 20 that could handle todays motor

Seems like I read somewhere that the 23ft molds were either in Canada or at Wally`s place.

Talk to Mirage and see if he will start building these. It's a Silverwing hull and should do fine with these 4 stroke motors. Possibly the 450R as well. JPEROG, the Wicked hull can handle the 4 strokes too.

Us1 did one that was very fast. Would be a great boat for the weight and a single rig.

We talking about the Silverwing builder or Wicked? I have heard some things but was not sure. That Silverwing hull is a solid handling beast.
