We have two types up here that look mean but do not go after people. The first is the blue wasp pictured above. See them a lot by houses that have exposed wood siding or trim. Must be making pulp from the wood or something. The other type looks just like a yellow jacket but they do not have the same temper. I have not heard anyone claim being stung by either one. Plenty of attacks from traditional wasps and yellow jackets and of course hornets. I think hornets are the worst as they seem to keep chasing you like they are out for vengeance.

I was on an open cab tractor moving some junk and flipped over a barrel that was a honey bee nest. As they began to swarm, I jumped off the tractor and started running across a bean field. They followed me about half way across it... The beans were about waist high so I just laid down in the beans and they left me alone. The idiot that worked for me didn't run but was swatting at them with his cap. He was stung several times. LOL!!!

BTW The tractor was running, making noise and being hot; they were all over it. It sat there for over 2 hours running until they calmed down.

I started priming the parts for my truck today. A wasp ventured into my makeshift paint booth, a popup canopy with visqueen sides, and he got a fresh coat of epoxy primer.
I don't think that is why he stopped by. Didn't seem to like it too much. Maybe he thought I was spraying clear coat and wanted a shiny finish to impress the ladies???

Friend of mine ran into what must have been the African bees a few years back. He has a winter home near Corpus and when he was opening it up he was attacked, stung a bunch of times. He did not go outside until the next day and as soon as he walked out the door he was attacked again. Had to call an exterminator to get rid of them. Other then that, I don't know of anybody who has dealt with them though. They sound vicious.

Don’t forget to wet sand that wasp, the paint won’t lay down as smooth

    Fun with hornets

I would guess this scenario happens often .....my story is similar ....cutting the local trails and walk path in the woods near my house i ran into a dead log on side of trail knocking it a few feet off to the side ....was an attempt to make more clearance for me to get through with the argo 8x8 later when we go on beer rides in the woods.... unbeknownst to me a large bald face hornets nest was teaming with fury ....as i stopped to back up and take another pass i got stung multiple times and jumped off the mower .....i was right over the hole with the mower deck runnin....since i disabled the seat kill switch she kept runnin for quite awhile killing dozens of hornets as they came out of the hole.... after 10 min i got a big long stick and reached the hydro control and was able to get the tractor to move off the hole and then more came out as the hole was now exposed ... so i hit the key switch with the stick and left the ****er there till dark and went back hooked a rope to it and dragged it with the truck down the street....god damn crazyiest **** ever.

Night time is best to kill nests or what have you. They can't see at night. I used to put diesel in a pump up sprayer and go through the barns killing them before we got the harvest equipment out. They would tear your ass up if you didn't! Even then you would inevitably miss a few!

Soapy water kills hornets/wasps fast. Better than bug killer or even brake cleaner.....
