in the article this information has no pic..............

"The first thing I do is install temperature gauges in the heads. On the high performance models there are already pipe plugs present, which makes this an easy installation. On fishing engines, you will have to drill and tap the tops of the heads. A dual needle temperature gauge would be perfect for this setup. I have two gauges installed in my dash, however, I install Flowscan gauges on bass boats and sport boats that cannot accommodate the extra gauges. The Flowscan gauges have two needles incorporated into a single instrument."

"Next, I remove the innards out of the thermostats and reinstall them. I only use the washer from the thermostat to hold the gasket in place. I also remove the brass fittings for the hoses from the heads and install 1/4-inch pipe plugs. I’ve never thought that pulling water off the head was a good idea. Without water pressure in the head, I think there’s a good chance steam pockets will form within the head. There’s also more of a chance of detonation if the head gets hot spots in the combustion chamber."

he posted this pic in tech, should it go in the article to corrospond with whats above ya think? great article!! just a thought to help out reading the above

thanks greg & greg for posting it!!

just prior to leaving on my keys trip i discovered my tuner laying down in the mid-section, now that i have to tear into it i will go through and do these mods

    Skip,
The gauge thing! You could put a switch in the dash. Like a A&B switch. A- is starboard head, B-is port. Then you only need one gauge.

    Greg (Moss)

The article will help alot of people!

    I'm confused about this:

"If I am running in cooler water, I will use restrictor in the poppet cover dump line. A small plastic restrictor outlet insert works well in this situation, and it still gives good water pressure at both wide open throttle and idle. "

What does the restrictor outlet insert look like?
Is it just a simple adjustable valve?

My other question is: How much water should I expect the hoses to dump at idle?
Should they all be spitting out about the same amount?

    Ooops...one more:
Will my water pressure gauge show a change in pressure?

    Thanks again! Mark

PS: I suggest using bright yellow water lines...they look cooler!
