I know that the 42' Fountain V hull that held the speed record for a long time was a potato chip hull. My friend bought the boat and had to reinforce the transom as it had no knee braces and was flexing. The bottom blew out of it at race also. That hull was laid up with one purpose of going fast in calm water.

I thought that Skater made at least one Fountain Kilo boat, but my memory is proven faulty going back that far

That’s how I remember it too.

It’s common for a kilo boat to be a one off, fly weight, single purpose effort.

I think it changes when the mfg’s claim to be setting records w/production boats.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

on this reply he was refering to the outerlimits that is holding the kilo record of brian forehand
its and still is running as a pleasure boat today,,,,,many yrs later still pleasure used
the boat came out of the top and bottom molds,,,had a front birth,,,,,yes pretty much same from molds
the previous fountains 1rst was a paper chip as dissicribed and broke up a few times trying to use it
this last 1 was so chopped up and lowered had to make a camper shell to cover the motors
not even close to be a good runner and hasn't showed back up since
so not apple to apple,,,,outerlimits is pretty much a production boat set up,,,,,

I also like the 30’ phantom with twin O/B’s. Will’s latest 30’ ran 103mph with 300xs’s and has the Phantom rough water/turning capabilities as a bonus. All these boats are top of the line and each have there strength and weaknesses.
